DMI

Dynamic Movement Intervention, or DMI, is now available at EJ Therapy. DMI may be used as part of pediatric physical therapy or occupational therapy for children with gross motor delays, motor impairments, and movement challenges.

What is DMI?

Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) is a comprehensive intervention used by physical and occupational therapists to treat children with gross motor impairments. It is a therapeutic technique used to treat children with motor delay by improving automatic postural responses and promoting progress towards developmental milestones. DMI stimulates neruoplasticity to faciliate new neuronal connections and development of motor milestones.

Who is DMI For?

Children diagnosed with any type of motor delay including conditions such as Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, global developmental delay, hypotonia, chromosomal abnormalities/genetic disorder, spinal cord lesions, or acquired brain injury may benefit from this form of therapy.

DMI is a good fit for most children and can benefit those that haven’t met many of their milestones. This can include a wide range of delays—from children who aren’t rolling yet to kids who are walking but need help with stairs, more difficult terrain, balance, coordination, or other gross motor areas.

Ask about DMI availability

Families are welcome to contact EJ Therapy to ask whether DMI therapy may be appropriate for their child. Call our team to discuss availability, evaluation requirements, insurance billing, private pay options, and next steps.
