Sensory Strategies and Tips for Kids Trick or Treating
- Take earplugs or headphones along in case the environment gets too noisy
- Allow your child to wear their costume a few times before Trick or Treat
- If they don’t want to wear a costume, have them wear a Halloween themed shirt instead
- Share what is going to happen during Halloween so they know what to expect
- If your child has issues staying close to you or a trusted adult, have them wear a glow stick or flashlight so they can be easily spotted
- If they have dietary needs or restrictions, maybe have them trade in a piece of candy for something else they will enjoy
- If he or she is nonverbal or utilizes an alternate form of communication, Autism Speaks created a printable sign to let others know. Click here to view
